![]() Even when Sissy leaves shortly after arriving, her heart stays there. Everything in the novel hinges on this place. Sissy’s travels take her to an all-girl ranch, run by Bonanza Jellybean, that is nearly utopia. I’m not sure if there’s a figurative meaning for that, but if there is, I don’t mean it figuratively. ![]() But then again, ridiculousness is part of its charm to some, I’ll wager. It’s charming when it’s not being absolutely ridiculous. For all its postmodern whimsy, it’s an actual book with an actual, accessible plot. ![]() If so, Tom Robbins’ Even Cowgirls Get the Blues may be for you. ![]() I’ve never experienced anything but love for what IA write, and I appreciate all the enjoyment I’ve gotten out of your work, authors. They see the beauty in younger people and when they are pains in the asses, they see the fun in that, too. ![]() ![]() She was super grim and just….lost the sparkle that made her an amazing character. It completely ruined the character for me and many other readers. It happened in another extremely well known UF/R series where they had a young character and they aged her to the point where she could have a romantic arc with an older character (much older….not like Derek) and it wouldn’t be creepy (not saying this was the reason behind the choice to take the story there, but that was the net effect). And the worst outcome, though this would not happen from IA, is that something would get written where Julie is, in becoming an adult, stripped of everything that makes her so wonderful. My #1 hope from this team is that they continue the Grey Wolf series. Tough, funny, totally age appropriate in how she was written (I am sure there is no shortage of source material), a unique character, and patient with Derek, who is a hot mess and my other favorite. I’m a psychotherapist who specializes in ages 15 – 25 and I just like that age, so maybe I’m not representative, but how could people hate her? She was delightful. I really am so confused about the Julie hate that the authors received. I just saw this whole thread about the Julie/Derek series continuing and had to weigh in because clearly what the authors need is more of that (…). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 16: Who was the escaped prisoner? We would also do well to consider Covenant as part of the Indian novel in English lineage that includes literary greats like Raja Rao, K Nagarajan, O V Vijayan, and R K Narayan. Indeed, the literary feats in The Covenant of Water deserve to be lauded as much as those of such canonical authors. There will also be continued invocations of the likes of Charles Dickens and George Eliot to describe Verghese's ambitious literary scope and realism. Much will be written about Abraham Verghese's multigenerational South Indian novel in the coming months and years.Īs we've seen with Verghese's earlier fiction, there will be frequent references to that other celebrated doctor-writer, Anton Chekhov. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note: This will be both a review of Ship of Destiny, the last book in the trilogy, and a wrap up of the entire trilogy. But first, I must wrap up the last book of the Liveship Traders trilogy: Ship of Destiny. We so enjoyed the Liveship Traders series that we’ve decided to plunge into the Tawney Man Trilogy together and see what adventure awaits us there. It was also emotionally heavy, which sometimes slowed my reading to a crawl because I had to take breaks.ĭespite all that, I liked the story and so did my buddy-reader Emily at Embuhlee liest, with whom I’ve been reading Robin Hobb’s books. I enjoyed reading the books, but the pace was slow, burdened down by details of the characters, events, and expansive world in which the story is set. Robin Hobb’s Liveship Traders series was a slog to get through. I’ve been procrastinating on reviewing Ship of Destiny because I have SOOO many thoughts. ![]() ![]() This is the reason why I haven’t posted a review in a while. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some applications, such as a building with multiple entrance doors, have numerous locks that are keyed alike one key will open every door. A skeleton key has the warded section of the key removed so that it opens all the doors of a system. Each door will have different wards and can only be opened by the correctly warded key or the master key. A master key system of lever locks has the same lever heights in all locks. ![]() ![]() Lever lock skeleton keys are used in a lock with usually three or five levers and a set of wards that come into contact with the bit of the key only on the sides-the top is for pushing the levers to their correct heights while the warded section of the key just has to pass uninterrupted to allow the key to rotate fully. To counteract the illicit creation of such keys, locksmiths can put wards not just in the center but on the outside as well, making the creation of a skeleton key more difficult. This can usually be done by removing most of the center of the key, allowing it to pass by the wards without interference, operating the lock. A common set of skeleton keys used to open most types of warded padlocks.Ī skeleton key is a key that has been filed or cut to create one that can be used to unlock a variety of warded locks each with a different configuration of wards. ![]() ![]() ![]() Such is the case of Sarah Maclean's No Good Duke Goes Unpunished, which surprised me with its awesomeness. However, I also try to keep an open mind and when so many people with excellent taste rave about an author, I'll give one of their books a shot, even if it's something I would normally shy away from. I'm an extremely picky romance reader as it is, and the settings (Regency England, primarily) and class issues (nearly exclusively featuring the titled classes) just don't appeal to me, and neither do the gender dynamics (power, female virginity obsession, etc.) endemic to the time periods popular in historical romance. ![]() Historical romance is even a harder genre for me. Despite that I'm a colossal history nerd, I just have the hardest time finding historical fiction that works for me-as a novel-lover and a history dork, I find that the balance rarely hits the right notes. and actually likes it!
